Credentials Management with Variable Sets

In this episode, we'll show you how to leverage Terraform Cloud's variable sets to manage cloud provider credentials effectively. By using variable sets as a single source of truth for your infrastructure access, you can simplify credential management and ensure that all your credentials are stored in one place.

This approach also means that Opsmaru will no longer need direct access to your infrastructure to provision resources, reducing the risk of security breaches.

Creating Variable Sets

To get started, navigate to the Organization page under Settings, where you'll find a link for managing variable sets. Clicking this link allows you to create and manage variable sets.

You can create multiple variable sets, and we recommend categorizing them by provider to ensure easy access.

Variable Set Scope

When creating or editing a variable set, you have the option to control which workspaces and projects have access to it. Simply select from the dropdown list to determine who has visibility into your variable sets.

Sensitive Values

When storing sensitive values like secret access keys or API tokens, use the Sensitive checkbox to protect them from plain view. This also ensures that the values can be updated but never seen.
